Tyler Churches Join Forces for VBX

“Can we come to VBX again next year?” asked seven-year-old Eston Anderson on the last day of Vacation Bible Experience held by the Tyler Seventh-day Adventist and Tyler Spanish Seventh-day Churches July 16-20, 2018.
The “Sea of Miracles–where kids get caught by Jesus’ love” VBX was a combined effort by both churches. “We all had a combined goal to reach out to our community,” said Mavreen Velayo, VBS Co-leader.
“It was a very fun experience. . . . It’s been really cool teaching the kids about God,” said Caleb Buckingham, one of the youth who helped with the different stations.
“I think it was a good turn out with more kids than I thought [average 50 kids per night],” said Ruth Monge from the Tyler Spanish church. “I was motivated to help because of my children and it’s a good way to remind them that Jesus is there for them and He is their friend.”
When asked what they liked about VBX, children and parents shared:
“I wanted them to interact with other kids, and I liked them learning the memory verses and songs,” said Andressa Boyd, parent.
“I liked everything! Playing outside, playing with friends, and singing the songs,” said seven-year-old JB Querrol.
“We didn’t expect this many kids and the outpouring of blessings. . . . It’s been awesome!” said Velayo. “We want to do more combined activities with the Tyler Spanish church in the future.”
“Jesus can help you with your worries and problems,” said Tyler Church Pastor Michael Tuionetoa as he closed his story as Fisherman Dan. “Remember, Fisherman Jesus is all we need!”
