Texas Residents Challenged by Tropical Storm Imelda

Marshall and Julie Gonzales, Texas Conference Adventist Community Services director and associate director, have been in contact with representatives from the state of Texas, Texas VOAD partners and FEMA representatives to determine needs and resources available.
As of today, it was shared that in the Houston/Beaumont area:
- 26,000 homes are without power
- Around 1,500 homes are affected by flooding, many affected during Hurricane Harvey
- 18 shelters are in place with 1,200 people being sheltered
“Many of the roads are still flooded,” Marshall Gonzales added. “At this time, access is only available to search and rescue teams. Others have been told to stay away until conditions are safe to enter.”
“We have been in contact with Gloria Harder, our Beaumont ACS coordinator,” Julie Gonzales shared. “At this time, they need cleaning supplies, personal care items and blankets, so we will take those items to them on Monday.”
“They emphasized that no water is needed as state and other agencies have already taken water to the area,” Marshall Gonzales stated. “Thankfully, the water supply has not been affected that much, so many still have access to water.”

If you would like to drop off items at the Texas ACS Depot in Keene, Texas. They can use scrub brushes, household cleaner (16 – 24 oz.), trash bags (30-45 gallon) and disinfectant wipes to add to the 5-gallon cleaning buckets they are creating. The Depot is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. To ship cleaning items, please address it to Texas Conference ACS; 1211 W Hwy 67; Alvarado, TX 76009.
Please note, at this time, they do not need clothes, food or water.
