Pizza Party | Denton First Church Brightens the Day for the Homeless

Derek Lazarus

On the first Sunday of each month, the Denton First Seventh-day Adventist Church in Pilot Point, Texas, serves the homeless dinner at Quakertown Park in Denton, Texas.

Wayne Aleshire from Bridging Hope Ministries organizes this “pizza party” along with other groups who sponsor the drinks and desserts.

The Denton First church is blessed to be a part of this program and we have enjoyed sharing care packages as well.

One of our members, Carol Thomasen goes the extra mile and brings a gift for each one, such as a jacket, a cap or whatever she can purchase for them.

For Christmas this year, Thomasen, with the help of her son and daughter-in-law, distributed a bag of goodies.

Thomasen says, “This brings me so much joy when I see these people and can see a smile on their faces when they receive them.”

These are the stories we love to hear! It is a blessing to be of service to those less fortunate than ourselves.

On the First Sunday, of each month, as a community of believers,(Denton First SDA), serves the Homeless dinner at Quakertown Park, in Denton. It is a Pizza Party, in addition to the main entrée, Wayne Aleshire from Bridging Hope Ministries for the Homeless gets other groups to sponsor the drinks and desserts. We are blessed to be a  part of this program. We have distributed personal care packages to the Homeless, but one of our senior’s Carol Thomasen, does something very special. Each week she brings something special for each of the Homeless. (a jacket, a cap, whatever she can purchase for them), for Christmas she with the help of her son and daughter-in-law, got a bag of goodies to distribute to the Homeless! She says, to me; “this brings me so much of joy, when I see these people and can see a smile on their faces when they receive them” These are stories we love to hear! It is a blessing to be of service to those less fortunate that ourselves.
