Church Planting

Guidelines for New Plants

Three are three status levels that every church plant in the Texas Conference goes through. Please find the guidelines for each level below:

Mission Group of the Texas Conference
(Guidelines for Starting A New Mission Group)

This is a period of about 4-6 months when the new group forms, builds a core team, visions together and starts mission work. Before it is formed, the group usually meets with the Texas Conference Church Planting Coordinator and reviews the guidelines in order to be added to the Conference Church Planting network. The mission group is coached by our department through a process of planing, preparing and organizing for its official launch date. Once it launches officially, the group continues to expand its ministries, reach out to lead new people to Jesus, and disciple them to become fully committed followers of Christ.

Every Mission Group meets with the Church Planting Coordinator of Texas Conference to review the guidelines, and is assigned a Supporting Church (mother church) and a Pastor-coach to guide them through the initial growing process until the group matures to the guidelines of achieving a company status.

Company of the Texas Conference
(Guidelines Document)

A company is an established church plant with a solid track-record of ministry, growth and organizational health that has firm presence in the community in which it is located and continues to be focused on and experience missional growth. Every Company has an assigned Coach that works with it and guides its Core Leadership Team until it reaches the guidelines for receiving a church status. This process usually requires between 4-6 months and requires the acceptance by the Texas Conference Executive Committee.

Reaching an official Church status is the last level in this process. It is a way of confirming God’s guidance and blessing on the new church plant evident in the fruits of its mission-focused life and ministry.

Every lay-led new church has a Pastor-coach that watches over the church plant or is attached to a district with a full-time pastor.

Church Planting Leaders

The Texas Conference Church Planting Department offers on-going training to prepare and equip our Church Planters to be more fully and successfully used by God to fulfill their calling. One of our major goals in our 20/20 vision is to have every Church Planter in the Texas Conference go though a full training Church Planting curriculum. The training will provide the basic knowledge and will equip every lay pastor/leader of a church plant in the following five areas: 1) Basics of Church Planting; 2) Personal Spirituality; 3) Leadership; 4) Outreach; Evangelism and Discipleship; 5) Pastoral Ministry. The goal is to have every Church Planter take the basic training in every one of the above areas in the first two years as they lead their plants. These classes will be tough at the annual SEEDS Conference, at the Church Planters Bootcamp and at the local area rallies throughout the year. Check the conference calendar for the specific upcoming training dates in your area.

Thank you for your interest in Church Planting! We want to hear from you if you have any interest to get involved in this movement and either lead or become a part of one of the new church plants in Texas.
